Planting the seed for success in the workplace

The SME MK and Buckinghamshire Business Awards 2019, in association with The University of Buckingham, took place on 14th February at The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. Over 300 business people attended, with the majority of our category winners going through to the SME National Awards ceremony at the iconic Wembley Stadium this December.

Completing the first of a two-year charity partnership, Worktree took away an amazing total of £826.40 from the awards gala earlier this year. The charity holds sessions that provide young people with employability skills, confidence and information about the world of work.

Worktree do not receive any government funding, relying solely on donations and grants, sponsorship and sales from schools. The charity emphasize that anyone can get involved, through donation giving or providing an hour of their time at a Career WorkOut session. Consultant and Lead Facilitator for Worktree, Theresa Mercer said “It is an honour for Worktree to be the chosen charity, for this year and next, for the SME MK & Bucks Awards. This year’s Awards evening was fantastic, raising necessary funds for the charity, and gave us the opportunity to meet new prospective volunteers for our Career WorkOut programme. We are looking forward to working with the new volunteers and excited for next year’s awards.”

Awards Director, Damian Cummins said, “Along with the University of Buckinghamshire, the SME Business Awards are so pleased to be working with such a great local initiative and hope that many of our entrants will support Worktree too

Jason Sinclair, Director of Executive Development and Student Employability at the University of Buckingham said “Worktree is a wonderful programme, facilitating all of the above in our schools, and encourages involvement from the whole local community. This helps inform our children’s choices as they develop through school to young adults.  It also helps to reduce the stress that uncertainty can bring to our youths and help with their welfare longer term. This for us, makes it a charity worthy of all our support.
